We have a fantastic opportunity for a Bricklaying Apprentice to start their career with us. The Bricklaying Apprentice will commence 5th October at a Bricklaying Hub in Newcastle for the first two weeks. For the majority of the 18-month apprenticeship, they will be based from our development in Grimsby. There will also be additional intensive two-week blocks of training every 8-10 weeks at the Bricklaying Hub, learning all the skills and knowledge necessary to become a competent Bricklayer utilising a variety of tools and processes. The Bricklaying Apprentice will work towards completing the Level 2 Apprenticeship standard in Bricklaying.
Bricklayers are responsible for setting out buildings using blocks, bricks, and mortar in accordance with approved construction plans. Bricklayers can be responsible for building and repairing walls. They may also refurbish brickwork and masonry:
- Measuring and setting out rows and courses of bricks
- Laying the bricks and fixing them using mortar
- Measuring and cutting bricks to the appropriate sizes and shapes using a variety of tools
- Ensuring that the courses run straight using a spirit level
Your Health & Safety responsibilities include:
- Building cavity walls
- Running to line – building corners to gauge, jointing, insulation, cavity closures
- Installing wall ties, fire stopping
- Silo use and maintenance
- Traditional mixing methods
- Constructing damp proof courses, cavity trays, positioning lintels, gauge, bonding, setting out simple structures
- Delivering the above and a range of additional bricklaying techniques/skills, all to NHBC standards
