As we continue to grow our in-house design and technical capabilities, we are looking for an experienced

Design Technician to join our team.

This is a hands-on technical role focused on taking design information and developing it into accurate, detailed and manufacture-ready drawings for our workshop and project teams.

You will work closely with our internal commercial, production and operations teams to ensure that joinery designs are practical, fully detailed and ready for manufacture and installation.

The Role

As Design Technician, you will be responsible for producing detailed technical and manufacturing information for bespoke joinery and interior fit-out projects.

You will interpret architectural and design information and develop it into clear, accurate drawings and 3D models that can be used by our workshop and site teams.

You will work as an important link between the design information, our internal teams and the workshop, ensuring projects are properly detailed and coordinated before manufacture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Technical Delivery
  • Produce accurate manufacturing and production drawings for bespoke joinery items.
  • Develop detailed construction drawings, sections, elevations and component details.
  • Interpret architectural drawings, specifications and design information and translate these into practical manufacturing solutions.
  • Produce accurate 2D drawings and 3D models for internal coordination and manufacture.
  • Develop joinery details with consideration for materials, construction methods, tolerances, hardware and installation requirements.
  • Ensure drawings contain sufficient information for the workshop and installation teams to manufacture and install correctly.
  • Revise and update drawings in response to internal design, manufacturing and installation requirements.
  • Assist with developing standard details, drawing templates and technical processes to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Integrate AI-assisted design tools and new digital workflows into the design process, continuously improving efficiency and output quality.
  • Coordination
  • Work closely with the workshop, production, estimating, commercial and operations teams.
  • Discuss technical details and buildability with the workshop to ensure designs are practical and achievable.
  • Identify potential manufacturing or installation issues at the design stage and develop suitable solutions.
  • Coordinate design information across multiple projects and ensure drawings are issued in line with programme requirements.
  • Review information for accuracy, consistency and completeness before it is released for manufacture.
  • Maintain organised drawing registers, revisions and project information.
  • Digital Design & Development
  • Use 2D and 3D design software to develop and communicate technical solutions.
  • Support the continued development of 3D modelling and digital design processes within the business.
  • Explore and utilise new technologies, including AI-assisted design tools, where they can improve productivity, accuracy and workflow.
  • Contribute to the development of efficient digital systems, templates and standards for the design function.
  • Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure technical drawings and design information are accurate and produced to a consistently high standard.
  • Consider relevant regulations, standards, materials and manufacturing requirements when developing details.
  • Identify design-related risks and potential issues before manufacture.
  • Support the delivery of cost-effective, practical and high-quality technical solutions.
  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail across all design and drawing work.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Demonstrable experience producing manufacturing or technical drawings for bespoke joinery, cabinetry, furniture, interior fit-out or a related industry.
  • Strong proficiency in

Auto CAD and/or relevant 3D design software such as Solid Works, Inventor, Sketch Up or similar.

  • Good understanding of joinery construction, materials, hardware and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to interpret architectural drawings, specifications and design information.
  • Strong understanding of technical detailing and buildability.
  • Minimum of three years' relevant experience within joinery, construction, furniture manufacturing or interior fit-out.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and drawing revisions.
  • Practical and methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of an internal design and production team.
  • Experience with CNC manufacturing and/or CNC-ready drawing information.
  • Experience with advanced 3D modelling or parametric design.
  • Knowledge of BIM workflows.
  • Experience developing drawing standards, templates or technical processes.
  • Experience using AI or other emerging digital design technologies.
