Payroll Officer Location: Norwich Salary: £30,000 - £34,000 A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Payroll Officer to join a well-established organisation in Norwich. This is a standalone payroll position, ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership of the end-to-end payroll function while working closely with Finance, HR and operational teams. This role would suit a payroll professional who is highly organised, detail-oriented and confident managing payroll processes independently. You'll play a key role in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time, while continuously improving payroll processes and maintaining compliance. Key Responsibilities Manage the end-to-end monthly payroll process, ensuring accuracy and timely completion. Maintain payroll records, including starters, leavers, salary changes, contractual amendments and deductions. Process overtime, allowances, travel claims and other variable payments. Support pension administration, statutory payments, salary sacrifice schemes and payroll deductions. Prepare payroll checks, reconciliations and variance reports prior to payroll approval. Respond to payroll queries professionally and confidentially. Support the processing and administration of employee expenses and allowances. Prepare payroll journals, reconciliations and month-end payroll reporting. Produce payroll reports and analysis to support Finance and management. Maintain accurate payroll records in line with GDPR and internal controls. Identify opportunities to improve payroll systems, processes and efficiencies. Work collaboratively with HR, Finance and operational managers while maintaining ownership of payroll accuracy. About You We're looking for someone who has: Previous experience managing end-to-end payroll. A strong understanding of PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments and pensions. Experience processing payroll with variable pay, including overtime, allowances and expenses. Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem solving. Strong Excel and systems skills, with experience using payroll and HR systems. The confidence to work independently while building effective relationships across the business. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet strict payroll deadlines. What's on Offer Standalone payroll role with autonomy and responsibility.
