Our client is seeking an experienced Credit Control Team Leader to oversee and strengthen their credit control function within a fast-paced finance environment. This is a key leadership role focused on protecting cash flow, reducing financial risk, and driving continuous improvement across credit management processes.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Manager for Credit Management and Invoicing, you will lead the Credit Control team, ensuring accurate, timely debt management while supporting wider operational and customer objectives. You will act as the first point of escalation for complex queries and play a vital role in maintaining strong financial controls and customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the Credit Control team, setting clear priorities to ensure high-quality service delivery
  • Act as the first escalation point for credit control queries and disputes
  • Coach, support and develop team members, including performance monitoring and training needs
  • Oversee the production and accuracy of aged debt reports, ensuring proactive management of overdue balances
  • Support effective working capital and cash flow management through close monitoring of collections, credit exposure and payment terms
  • Maintain effective contact with customers to ensure timely payment of invoices
  • Maximise the use of Direct Debit and automated payment solutions to reduce debtor days
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across shared service and operational teams to resolve issues efficiently
  • Drive continuous improvement across credit control processes to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction
  • Support internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with policies, controls and governance standards

Skills & Experience

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English (essential)
  • Proven experience supervising finance or credit control staff (essential)
  • Strong background in Credit Control within a dynamic finance environment (essential)
  • Intermediate Excel skills (essential)
  • Professional finance qualification such as CICM or AAT (desirable)
