As Headteacher at Leaways School, you will lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver high standards of education to children aged 7 to 17 with special educational needs, including social, emotional and mental health needs, ADHD and childhood trauma. You will report to the Regional Director and will be accountable for day-to-day leadership and operational management of the school, including teaching and learning, quality assurance and professional standards, performance management and staff development, curriculum design and delivery, assessment and outcomes, recording and reporting, budgeting and occupancy, and staff recruitment and retention.

We are seeking education professionals with demonstrable, recent special education leadership experience who are ambitious and passionate about inspiring and developing the team to achieve the best possible outcomes for the children at Leaways. You will foster productive relationships with key stakeholders including parents/carers and local authority partners and will be confident addressing the challenges of working in an inner-city environment. Your role will leverage strategic leadership to build an inclusive, responsive and forward-thinking school culture that maximises achievement, supports personal development and meets the individual educational needs of all pupils.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership for a school serving children aged 7–17 with special educational needs.
  • Promote and develop teaching and learning, ensure quality assurance and maintain professional standards.
  • Oversee performance management, staff development, curriculum design and delivery, assessment and outcomes, and accurate recording and reporting.
  • Manage school budgets, occupancy levels, and staff recruitment and retention.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with parents/carers, local authority partners and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure inclusive, safe, and supportive learning environments that meet individual educational needs.
Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience in a leadership role within special education
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills

Leaways School, part of Kedleston Group, is an independent specialist day school in Clapton for children and young people aged 7 to 17. The school provides a safe learning environment for children with social, emotional and mental health needs including autism and an EHC Plan. We also have a dedicated primary unit taking children from 7 years old. We aim to offer as close to a mainstream experience as possible while providing the additional care and support needed to enable each pupil to thrive.
