Overview

Reporting into the Regional Director, you will have accountability for the day-to-day leadership and operational management of the school, including promotion and development of teaching and learning, quality assurance and professional standards, performance management and staff development, curriculum design and delivery, assessment and outcomes, recording and reporting, managing school budgets and occupancy levels and staff recruitment and retention.

We want to hear from education professionals with demonstrable, recent, special education leadership experience, who have the ambition and passion to inspire and develop the team to create the best possible outcomes for the children at Leaways.

You will be adept in fostering and maintaining productive and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders including parents/carers and local authority partners and will be confident with the challenges of working in an inner-city school.

Your role will see you leverage your strategic leadership experience to build an inclusive, responsive and forward-thinking school culture, which centres around maximising achievement, fostering personal development and meeting the individual educational needs of all pupils.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day leadership and operational management of the school, including teaching and learning development, quality assurance, professional standards, performance management, staff development, curriculum design and delivery, assessment and outcomes, recording and reporting.
  • Manage school budgets and occupancy levels, and staff recruitment and retention.
  • Foster productive and collaborative relationships with parents/carers, local authorities and other stakeholders; address challenges of working in an inner-city school.
  • Leverage strategic leadership to build an inclusive, responsive and forward-thinking school culture that maximises achievement and fosters personal development, meeting the individual educational needs of all pupils.

Qualifications

  • QTS (or equivalent)
  • NPQH
  • Demonstrable experience in a leadership role within special education
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills

About Leaways School

As Headteacher at Leaways School, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of committed professionals to deliver the highest standards of education to children age 7 to 17 with special educational needs, including social, emotional and mental health needs, ADHD and childhood trauma.

Leaways School, part of Kedleston Group, is an independent specialist day school in Clapton, for children and young people aged between 7 and 17. The school provides a safe learning environment for children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs including autism and an EHC Plan. We also have a dedicated primary unit taking children from 7 years old. We aim to offer as close to a mainstream experience as possible but provide the additional care and support needed around each young person to enable them to thrive.
