Responsibilities
- Work with students, parents, teachers and outside agencies on matters related to student welfare, encouraging positive behaviour and attitudes to learning.
- Ensure the school is adequately resourced to provide effective cover, supervision and arrangements for lessons.
- Assist the Assistant Headteacher in implementing planning.
- Complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities.
Qualifications and Skills
- GCSE or equivalent qualifications, including English and Maths.
- Evidence of CPD or an interest in learning.
- Effective communication with parents and carers.
- Excellent inter‑personal skills.
- Good personal organisation.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Awareness of the needs of a range of neurodiverse students (desirable).
- Knowledge of the effects of ACEs and trauma on children (desirable).

About the School
Hawley Woods School provides a specialist environment and support primarily for autistic children and those needing a similarly adapted approach, with small classes of 6‑8 pupils within our calm, nurturing setting. Our school caters for children from the age of 7 up to 16 years (Key Stages 2, 3 and 4). We help children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) who may be struggling to keep up with the pace of work, may be losing confidence, or struggling with the overwhelming sensory environment of their mainstream school. We also help children who have been out of education for a period of time, to positively re‑engage in an education which takes into account any negative experiences they may have had in schools so far.
We specialise in providing specialist education and care for children aged 7‑19 with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including autistic spectrum condition (ASC), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH). We are committed to safeguarding and protecting children and expect all colleagues to share this commitment.
