About the Role

Would you like to be part of Vital Energi's Strategy of Growth? We’re looking for an experienced and driven Operations Maintenance Manager to look after operations of our teams in London. This is a key leadership role where you will oversee a team of Contracts Managers, ensuring projects are delivered to the highest standards. You’ll play a central part in shaping project outcomes, building strong client relationships, and driving innovation in installation methods and technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure Contracts are effectively managed.
  • Responsibility for ensuring day-to-day operation & maintenance delivered in line with contractual and technical requirements.
  • Monitor, evaluate and improve overall engineering operations; Management, Scheduling and Engineering.
  • Develop Contracts and Manage Key Client Relationships, including attending client meetings and being a point of escalation.
  • Monitor and report on Contract Performance, including the creation and ongoing administration of KPI reports showing performance against contract requirements.
  • Ensure contractual compliance, including communicating contractual requirements to the wider business.
  • Manage, mentor and coach your team and those in the wider team, supporting your delivery of services.
  • Ensure staff performance is formally reviewed and that regular monthly one-to-one meetings are held with teams.
  • Responsibility for contractual budget monitoring, ensuring that contracts are delivered within budget throughout the life of each contract under management and costs are controlled.
  • Ensure variations are issued in a timely manner and are logged, recorded and managed until complete.
  • Ensure you and the team maintain accurate records for audits, regulatory reporting and contractual obligations.
  • Ensure contracts are fully compliant with all relevant statutory, regulatory and corporate requirements.
  • Work closely with managers, planners, engineers and subcontractors to ensure all works are planned and executed in accordance with contractual and statutory requirements.
  • Consider and propose improvements to systems, procedures and the service generally to ensure continuous improvement of operational services.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders and be seen as a point of escalation.
  • Ensure reporting to the SLT is managed adequately.
  • Support development and training for apprentices and engineers, ensuring it is to an acceptable standard representing Vital Energi.
  • Promote and comply with the Company’s policies on equality and health and safety both in the delivery of service and the treatment of others.
  • Engage with your manager in reviewing your performance and planning your development.
  • Practice effective risk management, establishing controls, procedures, health and safety systems, and audits, etc., which ensure services are compliant with legislation and that contingency plans are in place.

The Person

  • Several years experience as a Contracts Manager / Operations Manager controlling a large value project or a number of lesser projects at one time.
  • Experience of undertaking projects as the Principal Contractor & Principal Designer.
  • A proven track record of a similar role within a related engineering environment.
  • HND/degree qualification in an Engineering subject is essential.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience in managing multi-functional teams up to management level.
  • Experience in managing delivery of engineering services and delivering KPIs; ideally within heat networks, district heating or building services.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with experience managing budgets, costs and contract variations.
  • Solid understanding of heat network technologies, plant rooms, control systems and metering.
  • Knowledge of Heat Network Regulations, health & safety compliance and environmental standards.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving ability and a proactive approach to operational challenges.
  • Experience in delivery and understanding of Contractual and Statutory obligations.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and management, effective customer service delivery.
  • Experience in managing H&S.
  • Experience in managing a budget.
  • Ability to work with people and grow individuals and a team to successfully deliver the right solutions.
  • Computer literate with solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, and current internet technologies.
