We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Youth Mentor to join our team and support young people in achieving positive outcomes. This role involves building trusting relationships with young people, initially within their homes/online, building to travelling around their community and gaining life skills, e.g., travel training. The main outcome will be to build their confidence and self-esteem to leave the home and engage in activities onsite at Keane Futures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build positive and meaningful relationships with young people, who have had bad experiences within education, can be shut down and unwilling to engage, through interest-based activities.
- Plan and participate in activities that promote engagement, confidence, and personal development, including social activities, e.g., cinema, sports, museums, parks, etc.
- Be able to use public transport to initiate home visits and reach local communities.
- Have knowledge, passion and willingness to support young people with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
- Encourage and motivate young people to engage with services, with the ultimate goal of supporting them to attend and participate within our onsite-based provision.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with colleagues and partner agencies.
- Ensuring safeguarding and risk assessments at all times and the ability to think on your feet.
Essential Requirements:
- Appropriate qualifications relevant to youth work, mentoring, education, social care, or a related field.
- Experience working with young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
- Comfortable travelling using public transport.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
Availability Requirements:
Working hours are Monday to Friday, between 9:30am β 4:00pm. Applicants must be available for a minimum of 2 days per week within these hours. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people, helping them overcome barriers, and empowering them to engage positively with education, services, and their wider community.
