We're partnering with a globally recognised tech organisation to recruit a Senior Infrastructure Engineer into their highly skilled Technical Operations team. This is an opportunity for an experienced infrastructure engineer who enjoys working close to the technology, solving complex operational challenges, and shaping the future direction of critical platforms and services. If you're passionate about infrastructure, automation, Linux, and datacentre technologies — and want to work within an environment that values autonomy, innovation, and continuous learning — this could be the ideal next step.
The Opportunity
Joining a small, globally distributed Technical Operations function, you'll play a key role in designing, maintaining, and evolving a complex global infrastructure estate that supports cutting‑edge technology services. This is a genuinely hands‑on engineering role, combining approximately 50% project delivery with 50% operational support. You'll have significant ownership and freedom to influence technical decisions, introduce new ideas, and drive improvements across both existing and emerging platforms. The environment is highly collaborative, with opportunities to work alongside world‑class security specialists and gain exposure to emerging technologies across infrastructure, AI, and cyber security.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Designing, implementing and supporting enterprise infrastructure solutions across physical, virtual and cloud environments.
- Managing and maintaining Linux‑based infrastructure with a strong focus on security and reliability.
- Automating infrastructure and operational processes using Infrastructure as Code principles.
- Troubleshooting complex infrastructure and platform issues, identifying root causes and implementing long‑term solutions.
- Leading infrastructure design initiatives and contributing to architectural decisions.
- Supporting datacentre operations, including physical infrastructure and hardware management.
- Collaborating with global engineering teams across multiple regions.
- Mentoring and supporting less experienced engineers within the team.
- Driving continual improvement across systems, tooling and operational processes.
What We’re Looking For
We’re keen to speak with engineers who bring deep operational infrastructure expertise rather than purely cloud or software engineering backgrounds. You’ll ideally have experience in environments such as datacentres, hosting providers, managed services, technical operations or infrastructure engineering teams.
- Strong Linux systems administration experience (Ubuntu, Debian, RHEL or similar).
- Proven experience working within datacentre or physical infrastructure environments.
- Strong infrastructure engineering fundamentals across servers, networking and virtualisation.
- Experience troubleshooting complex operational issues independently.
- Networking knowledge covering switching, routing, firewalls, VPNs and related technologies.
- Scripting experience using Bash, Python or similar.
- Experience with enterprise storage, backup and monitoring platforms.
- Exposure to container technologies such as Docker or Podman.
- A security‑first mindset with experience applying infrastructure hardening principles.
- CI/CD and build automation.
- Identity and Access Management technologies (SSO, SAML, OIDC).
- HashiCorp Vault or other secrets management platforms.
- ELK / Elastic Stack.
- SQL databases.
- OpenVPN.
- Experience supporting GPU infrastructure or AI workloads.
The Environment This Team Offers:
- High levels of trust and autonomy.
- Minimal bureaucracy and genuine ownership.
- Freedom to experiment and influence technical direction.
- Exposure to cutting‑edge infrastructure modernisation initiatives.
- Opportunities to work on AI and GPU infrastructure projects.
- Collaboration with leading cyber security professionals.
- Ongoing learning and development opportunities.
Current projects include infrastructure modernisation programmes, AI platform support, and initiatives focused on emerging cyber security threats including deepfake and AI‑enabled attack vectors.
Salary of £60,000 - £75,000 10% annual bonus Hybrid working with no fixed weekly office requirement Manchester‑based team (typically attending the office around once per month) Additional travel to office and datacentre locations as required (fully expensed) Opportunity to work within a globally recognised technical and security environment.
Additional Requirements
Candidates must be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC) or already hold active SC clearance. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are required due to occasional travel to office and datacentre locations.
