This is an exciting time to join their organisation as they embark on a significant digital transformation journey. About the Role I am recruiting for an experienced and driven Head of Data Engineering to lead a large, dynamic team. You will play a critical role in overseeing the operational stability of their legacy data warehouses while driving their strategic migration to Azure. This is a high-impact position where you will shape the future of their data infrastructure and ensure they meet the evolving demands of their business and regulatory landscape. Responsibilities: Lead and mentor a team of 6-8 direct reports, overseeing a large data engineering department (70-100 people) composed primarily of a scalable offshore third-party resource. Ensure the smooth and efficient operation of existing data warehouses, maintaining high availability and performance. Spearhead the migration of data and applications to Azure, leveraging cloud-native technologies to modernize their data infrastructure. Collaborate closely with Data Governance and Management teams to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., BCBS 239, GDPR). Drive innovation and continuous improvement within the data engineering function, fostering a culture of excellence. Manage budgets and vendor relationships, optimizing costs and ensuring value delivery. What you need: Proven experience leading large data engineering teams in the financial services industry. Deep understanding of data warehousing principles, ETL processes, and data modeling techniques. Experience with Azure cloud technologies (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure SQL Database). Strong knowledge of data governance and data management best practices, with an understanding of relevant regulations. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
