KDC requires a Design Engineer to join our Bournemouth based team to support Mechanical activities, delivered as part of a collaborative engineering team from the Bournemouth office. The Design Engineer is responsible for delivering design solutions at the required quality and technical standard for each project, with support from the engineering team.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

  • Assessment and clearance of technical queries
  • Data and requirements capture
  • Creation and modification of 3D models and associated engineering documentation
  • Production of 2D drawings and design definitions as required
  • Support design activities associated with mechanical systems and modification work
  • Liaison with customer engineering teams and internal departments where required
  • Participation in design reviews and closure of resulting actions
  • Ensure adherence to quality processes, standards and configuration control procedures
  • Support project delivery to agreed technical, quality and schedule requirements
  • Provision of customer-facing support and technical interaction

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical / Aeronautical Engineering or demonstrable relevant experience
  • Previous experience within aerospace, defence or other highly regulated engineering environments
  • Experience using 3D CAD packages and PLM systems
  • Understanding of engineering drawing standards and product lifecycle/configuration management
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience supporting mechanical systems or modification work packages
  • Experience working in customer-facing engineering environments
  • Awareness of quality and compliance requirements within aerospace or defence projects
