The Role - Accounts Assistant (Purchase Ledger)
Reporting into the Accounts Team, you will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring suppliers are paid on time, and supporting wider finance activities across the business.
Responsibilities
- The Accounts Assistant will have full control of the Purchase Ledger using Sage 200, including allocations, statement reconciliations and checking nominal coding, as well as verifying subcontractors and completing CIS returns.
- The role will involve accurately processing supplier and subcontractor invoices, resolving invoice queries with suppliers and internal departments, preparing and processing supplier payment runs in line with agreed terms, maintaining and setting up supplier accounts, and ensuring correct VAT treatment in line with company procedures.
- You will also assist with month-end processes including accruals and reconciliations, manage the purchase ledger inbox, support audits by providing documentation and explanations when required, and carry out general finance administration and ad-hoc duties to support the wider finance team.
About You
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Previous experience in a Purchase Ledger or Accounts Payable role
- Good understanding of accounting principles and VAT
- Strong attention to detail with high levels of accuracy
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills
- Confident communicator, comfortable dealing with suppliers professionally
- Competent in Excel and accounting software (Sage or similar)
- Able to work independently while also being a strong team player
- Proactive, reliable and eager to contribute to a close-knit team
