The Opportunity
We are working with a leading plant hire business based in Hemel Hempstead who are looking for an experienced Service Manager to take ownership of a busy and high-performing service operation. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Service Manager who enjoys leading from the front, managing people, improving performance and ensuring a large fleet remains operational, compliant and ready to meet customer demand.
You will be responsible for managing a fleet of approximately 1,200 units and leading a team of around 25 fitters and mobile engineers, ensuring the service department operates safely, efficiently and effectively. This role would suit an experienced Service Manager from a plant hire, construction equipment, heavy engineering or similar environment who thrives in a fast-paced operational setting.
Key Responsibilities
As Service Manager, you will be responsible for:
- Taking full ownership of the service department and driving performance daily
- Leading, motivating and developing a team of fitters and engineers
- Managing servicing, inspections, repairs and breakdown response across a large fleet
- Ensuring equipment is maintained to a high standard and available to meet customer requirements
- Working closely with the Workshop Supervisor and wider operational teams
- Reducing downtime and improving service efficiency
- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and cost savings
- Maintaining high standards of health and safety
