What the Transport and Logistics Manager job involves:
- Overseeing all transport and logistics operations to ensure cost-effective and timely delivery of goods
- Working closely with customers, suppliers, and third-party logistics providers to deliver a seamless service
- Monitoring compliance with UK transport legislation, health & safety regulations, and environmental standards
- Keeping accurate and up-to-date records including delivery documents, fleet logs, and operational KPIs
- Leading, developing, and supporting a small but dedicated transport and logistics team of 6
- Identifying areas for continuous improvement and cost reduction
- Assisting with budget planning and managing logistics-related expenditure
- Using logistics software and systems to manage the day-to-day operation effectively
Skills Required:
- Proven experience in a similar Transport Manager or Logistics Manager role, ideally within an SME or distribution business
- Strong knowledge of UK transport laws, fleet compliance and best practices
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to juggle priorities and meet deadlines
- A CPC qualification
- Experience with customs and international shipping
- Knowledge of inventory or warehouse operations
- An understanding of health & safety procedures within logistics
