As a key member of the Engineering, Assurance and Compliance Team (EnACT), the Electrical Engineer will play a critical role in delivering technical governance and assurance across electrical systems and equipment at HM Naval Base Portsmouth. This position ensures that all electrical infrastructure is safe to operate, reliable, and fully compliant with relevant legislative and regulatory standards. With a strong background in electrical engineering and qualifications to HNC level or higher, you’ll bring proven experience and a commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions within a complex maritime environment. Your expertise will support the integrity of power distribution networks, control systems, and critical electrical assets that underpin operational capability across the site.

You’ll take ownership of technical challenges, oversee the acceptance and commissioning of electrical components in infrastructure projects, and ensure alignment with design intent and operational requirements. Furthermore, your responsibilities will include supporting the development of safety management systems for designated electrical asset groups, strategic infrastructure planning, and contributing to business improvement initiatives.

  • Provide governance and assurance for electrical systems and equipment; ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and design standards;
  • Support the integrity of electrical infrastructure and critical assets;
  • Oversee acceptance, commissioning and alignment with design intent;
  • Contribute to safety management systems and strategic infrastructure planning;
  • Participate in business improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Ideally, qualified electrical engineer with at least five years’ experience in the discipline.
  • Professional membership with a recognised technical body and actively working towards IEng accreditation or equivalent.
  • Health and safety training such as IOSH Managing Safely, CITB SMSTS, CSCS or similar.
  • Ability to operate within a regulated and safety-critical environment; good understanding of statutory and regulatory electrical compliance.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems in an industrial environment; expertise in power distribution, control systems, and rotating electrical machinery is highly beneficial.
