The Clerk of Works (Civil) role is a compliance and quality assurance position within the KBS Design Team. The position provides expertise and coordinates the clerk of works team resources for the development of quality and compliance programmes for projects. This includes early participation in project design development; guidance on commissioning requirements; on-site inspections, and testing and witnessing throughout a project all the way to handover.
By conducting other commissioning/witnessing related activities and assisting clerk of works (commissioning) team members when required, the Clerk of Works (Civil) will also be responsible for Inspection, Test and Assurance Plans (ITA’s). Management and monitoring of clerk of works activities via an on-line Project Management tool (PMO) - Keystone - is critical to the role, along with direct co-ordination of all witnessing, commissioning, and inspection requirements to ensure they are planned for, carried out, recorded and completed prior to project handover.
Responsibilities:
- The ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings and specifications.
- Relevant experience with underground utility distribution systems including gas, steam, water, sewage/drainage, combined heat & power and LV/HV trenching and ductwork systems.
- Experience of road works, pavements, sub-bases, asphalt laying and road markings.
- Knowledge of earth work systems including excavations and backfilling procedures & compaction testing.
- Knowledge of concrete systems including formworks, reinforcement placement, pouring and curing processes, surface finishes and expansion joints.
- Civils testing processes and relevant methodology e.g. slump test, cube testing & strength testing.
- Knowledge of building regulations, approved documents and British standards for civil systems, and relevant regulations including PUWER, LOLER, PSSR, Legionella etc.
- Ability to work directly with sub-contractors without direct management supervision and instruction.
- Experience of dealing with M&E contractors on site and at management level.
- Knowledge of CIBSE part M Commissioning Management or BSRIA Commissioning Job Book.
- Be conversant with IT systems for monitoring, tracking and feeding back on status of work packages.
