Job Title: Clerk of Works (Mechanical)
Location: HM Naval Base, Portsmouth (HMNBP)

Hours of Work: 37 per week
Salary: £40,000 – £50,000
What you’ll be doing
- Expertise in water, HVAC, ventilation, heating or gas systems to oversee high‑quality workmanship and ensure our varied portfolio of buildings performs at its best.
- Compliance and quality assurance within the KBS Design Team.
- Expertise and coordinates the clerk of works team resources for the development of quality and compliance programmes for project, including early participation in project design development, guidance on commissioning requirements, on‑site inspections, and testing and witnessing throughout a project all the way to handover.
- Conducting other commissioning/witnessing related activities and assisting the clerk of works (commissioning) team members when required, and also responsible for inspection, test and assurance plans (ITAs).
- Management and monitoring of clerk of works activities via an online Project Management tool (PMO) – Keystone is critical to the role, along with direct coordination of all witnessing, commissioning, and inspection requirements to ensure they are planned for, carried out, recorded and completed prior to project handover.
What you will bring
- Knowledge of building systems including HVAC, gas, steam, fresh water, sewage, combined heat and power plants, low‑temperature hot water, building management systems (BMS) and general mechanical plant.
- Workshop systems knowledge including local exhaust ventilation (LEV), workshop machinery, plant and lifting machinery, high/low pressure air systems, and utility distribution systems such as steam, gas, and water networks.
- Relevant qualifications such as an ONC/HNC (or NVQ) in civil engineering or construction management, a clerk of works qualification or related experience, and the ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings and specifications, with experience in building regulations, approved documents and British standards for electrical systems, and regulations including PUWER, LOLER, PSSR, F‑gas, legionella, DSEAR, MoD JSPs etc.
