The Clerk of Works (Electrical) role is a compliance and quality assurance position within the KBS Design Team. The position provides expertise and coordinates the clerk of works team resources for the development of quality and compliance programmes for projects. This includes early participation in project design development; guidance on commissioning requirements; on-site inspections, and testing and witnessing throughout a project all the way to handover.
By conducting other commissioning/witnessing related activities and assisting clerk of works (commissioning) team members when required, the Clerk of Works (Electrical) will also be responsible for Inspection, Test and Assurance Plans (ITA’s). Management and monitoring of clerk of works activities via an on-line Project Management tool (PMO) – Keystone is critical to the role, along with direct co-ordination of all witnessing, commissioning, and inspection requirements to ensure they are planned for, carried out, recorded and completed prior to project handover.
You’ll Have:
- Knowledge of electrical standards BS7671, including BS 5839 & BS 5266 is essential, along with experience with single and three phase installations, High Voltage(HV), Low Voltage (LV) and Extra Low Voltage(ELV) systems, containment systems, pits, ducts and trenching systems.
- Knowledge of electrical inspection and testing procedures and relevant applicable standards (CIBSE).
- With an ONC/HNC (or NVQ’s) in civil engineering or construction management, you’ll also have a Clerk of Works qualification or relevant experience (desirable).
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings and specifications with experience leaning towards building regulations, approved documents and British standards for electrical systems, and relevant regulations including PUWER, LOLER, PSSR, F-gas, Legionella, DSEAR, MoD Joint Service Publications (JSP’s) etc.

As the post of Clerk of Works (Electrical) requires a lot of stakeholder interaction, experience of dealing with M&E contractors on site and at management level would be hugely beneficial, along with heightened inter-personal skills to really drive home influence and rapport building. You’ll also be confident in your own ability, be able to show respect and tolerance to others, and be an excellent planner to ensure an organised approach.
