Overview
As Senior Counsel, you will lead the legal aspects of AI governance, data privacy, and cybersecurity for a global company. You advise on AI-specific laws and governance, coordinate cross-functional teams, and maintain internal resources to guide risk-aware development. You’ll shape global privacy programs and ensure compliant data handling across jurisdictions, working closely with the C-suite, IT, and external counsel. This role combines legal leadership with practical risk management to enable responsible innovation at scale. Responsibilities
- Lead and maintain global AI Governance program and advise on AI laws (e.g., EU AI Act)
- Maintain global Data Privacy program and advise on GDPR, UK GDPR, US and other jurisdictions
- Coordinate with the Chief Information Security Office on cybersecurity risk and reporting requirements
- Manage insider threat program and coordinate responses across IT and management
- Oversee responses to data subject requests and liaise with HR and other attorneys
- Coordinate with outside counsel to ensure value-driven legal support
- Provide risk-conscious but business-focused legal guidance for vendor and customer contracts
- Develop and update guidance resources and training for global teams
Key requirements
- Law degree and admission to practice in the UK or an EU member state
- Comprehensive expertise in AI, data privacy and cybersecurity laws across multiple jurisdictions
- Strong knowledge of ISO 27701 and related privacy frameworks (ISO 27001)
- Change management skills and ability to influence senior leaders
- Clear, concise communication and ability to simplify complex issues
- Ability to raise data privacy awareness across a global organization
- Experience managing outside counsel for value delivery
- Experience with AI governance, information governance, and data mapping/retention (preferred)
