Overview
As Principal Estimator at KBR, you will lead the preparation of capital cost estimates for major energy, chemicals, and energy transition projects. You collaborate with project teams, clients and leadership to deliver robust, auditable estimates across the full lifecycle, from studies through EPC. You shape estimating scopes, methodologies and risk inputs to support critical investment decisions. This role sits within STS Integrated Solutions, offering influence across traditional and emerging energy markets. Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and delivery of all classes of capital cost estimates.
- Define estimating scope, methodologies, work plans, and deliverables for assigned projects.
- Develop estimates that are accurate, fully auditable, risk-assessed, and aligned with procedures.
- Establish key estimate assumptions including equipment, materials, construction methods, and exclusions.
- Develop cost estimates aligned to WBS and CBS, and source labour rates for global projects.
- Conduct benchmarking, cost analysis, and estimate validation activities.
- Maintain estimate documentation for auditability and support reviews.
- Coordinate inputs from engineering, procurement, and construction to ensure compliance with estimating procedures.
- Lead, mentor, and supervise assigned estimators on project activities.
- Report to Project Managers and the Estimating Director on project and departmental matters.
Key requirements
- Significant estimating experience in energy, chemicals, offshore/onshore, and energy transition sectors.
- Experience preparing studies, FEED, EPC project estimates.
- Strong understanding of estimating methodologies and practices.
- Experience presenting estimates and cost strategies to clients and senior management.
- Ability to evaluate risks, uncertainties, and contingencies.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong leadership capability with experience managing estimating teams.
- Proficiency with estimating software, including ACCE.
