About the Role
The Project Controls Manager is responsible for leading the development and delivery of integrated project controls across complex UK programmes, providing accurate, timely, and reliable insight to support informed decision‑making. This role establishes and maintains robust planning, cost, risk, and performance management frameworks that enable projects to be delivered to agreed time, cost, and quality outcomes. Working closely with Project Managers, commercial teams, and client stakeholders, the position ensures that data is translated into clear, actionable intelligence. The role operates across the full project lifecycle, embedding governance, assurance, and change control disciplines. Through structured analysis and coordination, the Project Controls Manager supports delivery confidence across multi‑disciplinary environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Project Controls function for assigned projects or programmes, integrating planning, cost, risk, change, and performance reporting activities.
- Develop, maintain, and assure integrated schedules and cost baselines aligned to approved scope and delivery strategies.
- Establish and manage Performance Measurement Baselines, including forecasting, variance analysis, and earned value reporting.
- Implement project controls governance, processes, and assurance routines to support consistent and compliant delivery.
- Provide clear, decision‑focused reports and dashboards for project leadership and senior stakeholders.
- Coordinate inputs from planning, cost, risk, and commercial teams to ensure data integrity and alignment.
- Support change control processes by assessing impacts to schedule, cost, and risk and maintaining baseline integrity.
- Engage with clients and internal stakeholders to clarify requirements, resolve issues, and support delivery objectives.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of project controls methods, tools, and reporting standards.
Experience Required
- Project Controls Manager or equivalent experience on complex infrastructure, energy, defence, or industrial programmes.
- Primavera P6 scheduling experience.
- Earned Value Management experience.
- UK project delivery experience within regulated or governed environments.
- Experience working under NEC or similar UK contract frameworks.
- Multi‑disciplinary programme or portfolio‑level project controls experience.
- Experience leading or mentoring project controls teams.
Qualifications/Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
- Professional project management or controls certification (APM, PRINCE2, PMI, or equivalent).
Location
Reading/Bristol/Plymouth - hybrid working with a mix of office-based and remote working.
