Overview
Frazer‑Nash Consultancy seeks a proactive and diligent engineer for our UK Built Environment team. The role focuses on assessing structures to resist extreme dynamic loads – impact, blast, fire and seismic – within critical asset sectors such as Energy, Defence, Space, Nuclear and Transport.
Responsibilities
- Concept development and feasibility analysis for dynamic hazard projects
- Civil and structural design verification, including code assessments (Eurocode, ASCE, AISC) via software and hand calculations
- Hazard assessment – seismic, blast, fire performance modelling – and validation studies or safety‑case development
- Structural analysis and substantiation for extreme dynamic loads (explosion/impact/vehicle failure, seismic qualification)
- Support client interaction to identify needs, provide technical oversight, and nurture further project opportunities
- Prepare and review technical documentation, ensuring quality standards and client expectations are met
Qualifications
- Master’s degree (or higher) in Engineering or a related discipline (physics, chemistry, mathematics)
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to build client relationships
- Excellent technical writing for consulting applications and engineering problem‑solving ability
- Proficient computer literacy including ABAQUS, ANYSYS, LSDYNA, Autodesk Robot, Revit, AutoCAD; knowledge of programming languages is advantageous
- Experience with code‑based assessment, structural tools, seismic/dynamic analysis, blast/fire modelling, hazard quantification, and safety‑case documentation is beneficial
- Willingness to engage in client‑facing consultancy work and collaborate across disciplines
- Relocation to the UK and the ability to undergo pre‑employment screening and satisfy UK National Security Vetting clearance requirements
