KBR is looking for a Commissioning Department Manager to work in our Leatherhead offices. The Commissioning Department Manager is responsible for leading, developing, and supporting the commissioning team activities across projects and services within the organisation. This role ensures that systems and facilities are accurately estimated during FEED and EPC (including OPEX, CAPEX), installed, tested, and operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with client requirements, regulatory standards, and company policies.
The role combines technical leadership, project oversight, commercial awareness, and people management to deliver high-quality commissioning services within KBR Leatherhead and continuous improvement within the department.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership & Department Management
- Lead and manage the commissioning department, including recruitment, training, and performance management.
- Ensure the application of standard and best industry practice, innovating where appropriate.
- Bring and share extensive Commissioning and Start Up experience with the team members effectively as Manager and Subject matter Expert, reviewing and overseeing their activities and output.
- Develop departmental strategy, procedures, and best practices to support business growth and operational efficiency.
- Foster a culture of safety, quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Mentor and develop commissioning engineers and specialists.
- Support proposal and project requirements as KBR Commissioning lead.
- Project Delivery & Oversight
- Oversee commissioning activities across multiple projects from Concept/FEED/EPC planning through to completion and handover.
- Ensure commissioning plans, schedules, and procedures are developed and implemented effectively.
- Monitor project progress, resolving issues and mitigating risks to ensure timely delivery.
- Coordinate with project managers, design teams, contractors, and clients to ensure alignment.
- Ensure proper documentation, reporting, and sign-off processes are completed.
- Technical Expertise
- A relevant number of years of LNG/Gas processing Commissioning Experience (Ammonia/SAF experience also considered valuable).
- Must be comfortable primarily in process mechanical commissioning but also understand the principles of instrument, control and electrical systems commissioning.
- Extensive field “hands on” and field management experience as well as Home Office experience.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on commissioning methodologies and standards. Ability to influence Client teams as to best approach.
- Review system designs to ensure they are commissionable and meet operational requirements.
- Support troubleshooting, testing, and validation of complex systems.
- Stay current with industry standards, codes, and emerging technologies.
- Strong knowledge of field commissioning organisation set up and sizing etc.
- Quality, Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all commissioning activities comply with industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
- Maintain strong focus on health, safety, and environmental practices.
- Implement quality assurance processes and drive continuous improvement.
- Conduct audits and reviews of commissioning processes and outputs.
- Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as a key point of contact for clients on commissioning-related matters.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and contractors.
- Participate in project meetings and provide updates to senior stakeholders.
- Support business development by contributing technical expertise to bids and proposals.
- Commercial & Financial Management
- Manage departmental budgets and resource allocation.
- Monitor project costs, ensuring commissioning activities are delivered within budget.
- Identify opportunities for efficiency and cost optimisation.
- Support pricing and estimation for commissioning services.

- Strong understanding of relevant industry standards and regulations, safe energisation processes and PTW systems.
