Position Overview

Title: Nuclear Engineering Professional – Architect Engineer

Salary range: £50,000 to £70,000 per annum (DOE)

Location: Bristol, Gloucester, Leatherhead, Glasgow, Burton, Manchester

Working pattern: Flexible hybrid – time split between office, client sites and working from home.

Closing date: Friday 28th August 2026 (early applications encouraged).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategies for complex nuclear challenges.
  • Produce high‑quality technical documentation to meet client demands.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship and training to colleagues and clients.
  • Manage projects, ensuring they meet time, cost and quality expectations.
  • Identify new business opportunities and generate proposals and bids.
  • Establish and build enduring client relationships.
  • Perform technical requirements capture, optioneering and specification authoring.
  • Be responsible for the design, manufacture, delivery, installation and/or commissioning of plant items and systems.
  • Integrate design and safety case requirements technically.
  • Author and verify nuclear safety case proposals and key supporting documents.
  • Inspect equipment at nuclear sites to ensure it remains qualified to meet functional safety requirements or identify remediation measures.
  • Specify plans to retire and remove plant, systems and structures for safe, secure, cost‑effective defuelling, dismantling and decommissioning.

Qualifications

  • Essential:
    • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
    • Technical knowledge within a particular field (e.g., mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, C&I).
    • History of delivering technical work effectively.
    • Good problem‑solving and interpersonal skills.
    • Confident, clear and organised written communicator.
    • Willingness to travel to client sites as required.
  • Desirable:
    • Engineering Management / Project Engineer capability.
    • Architect Engineer experience.
    • Background in electrical, C&I or mechanical engineering.
    • Experience with operations, engineering, safety case development at nuclear sites.
    • Confidence in developing new business and maintaining client relationships.
    • Project management experience in a consultancy (or similar) environment.
    • Chartered status (or working towards) with a professional institution.

Pre‑employment Requirements

  • Candidate will be required to undergo pre‑employment screening and satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
