About the Role

Frazer‑Nash Consultancy seeks experienced MESM operators with a background in submarine design, modification, operation, maintenance or safety. You will support the Royal Navy’s submarine programme, including safety case documentation, maintenance scope optimisation, submarine commission and life extension assessments, AUKUS support, and client roles across all submarine classes.

What you will do

  • Produce safety case documentation to underwrite operations of naval nuclear reactor plants.
  • Optimise scope for maintenance periods.
  • Assess submarine commission and life extensions.
  • Support AUKUS initiatives.
  • Provide safety hazard analysis for future submarine designs.
  • Give technical oversight to civil nuclear power stations during planned maintenance outages.
  • Deliver SM SQEP experience for facility engineering and shore side infrastructure.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experienced MESM CatA2/CatB operator.
  • Experience in the commercial submarine sector.
  • Knowledge of submarine whole‑boat or nuclear safety cases and safety analysis techniques (HAZID, hazard management, functional hazard assessment, categorisation, classification).
  • Experience in risk management and reduction, including ALARP assessments.
  • Familiarity with technical assurance/governance.
  • Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer status (or working towards this).
  • Must be able to pass UK National Security Vetting clearance.
