Role Description: At Frazer‑Nash we deliver innovative engineering solutions to our clients to make lives safe, secure, sustainable and affordable. It’s an exciting time to work in the nuclear industry and Frazer‑Nash are involved in many projects across the whole lifecycle of various nuclear facilities. We’re seeking a Nuclear Safety Case Specialist with particular experience of working with EDF to join our diverse team and play a role in developing and increasing our support to existing and new nuclear projects. We support clients in all parts of the UK civil and defence nuclear industry, with one of our most significant areas being our support to the EDF’s gas‑cooled and light water reactor fleet. We provide specialist support to EDF on engineering projects for the design, construction, operation, maintenance, defuelling, and decommissioning of their nuclear facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and undertake project work for EDF on, or in support of, significant nuclear safety cases, and supervise other staff in doing such work.
- Develop and execute strategies to tackle complex nuclear safety challenges.
- Lead technical tasks such as safety assessment, risk assessment, hazard identification, fault schedules, design basis analysis, probabilistic analysis, safety functional requirements.
- Conduct periodic review of safety of nuclear facilities.
- Qualification and substantiation of systems against safety requirements.
- Internal and external hazards assessments.
- Safety case development and support for nuclear and non‑nuclear plant.
- Authoring or reviewing/verifying safety‑related documents.
- Oversee and manage projects, develop and hold client relationships, and win new work; support and coach junior colleagues’ development.
- Apply knowledge from working with EDF to projects with other nuclear clients.
Essential Requirements:
- Demonstrable 10+ years of civil nuclear or defence nuclear infrastructure experience, with a significant period of that being with EDF.
- A Degree, Master’s or PhD in a relevant STEM subject.
- Extensive experience and understanding of the UK regulatory regime for nuclear safety cases and safety management.
- Deep knowledge of nuclear safety case requirements, processes, terminology and documentation.
- Expertise in safety analysis and safety justification methods as used in the nuclear industry.
- Effective organisational skills and proven track record of leading technical teams.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to handle shifting requirements and operate autonomously.
- An appetite to continually learn, improve and stretch yourself.
- Willingness to travel and spend time on client sites.
Desirable Requirements:
- Experience working for multiple site licensee companies, both reactor and non‑reactor plant.
- Technical oversight, leadership and self‑directed review experience.
- Experience in project management and commercial aspects.
- Technical consultancy experience.
- Being Chartered with a professional institution.
Security Requirements: Due to the nature of the work that Frazer‑Nash Consultancy undertakes, candidates will be required to undergo pre‑employment screening and must be able to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
