Technical Sales Engineer- Aberdeen The Role The Technical Sales Engineer plays a key role in supporting the sales function by coordinating technical enquiries, quotations, customer communications, and sales activities. The primary objective of the role is to ensure that customer requirements are clearly understood, accurately communicated, and effectively coordinated with the relevant internal teams. Responsibilities Technical Sales Support Provide day-to-day technical and administrative support to the sales function. Act as a key point of contact for technical sales enquiries and coordinate responses with the appropriate internal teams. Interpret customer requirements and ensure relevant information is accurately captured and communicated. Assist the sales team in providing technical information and documentation to customers. Support the preparation of technical proposals, quotations, presentations, and supporting documentation. Ensure quotations, drawings, and technical documents are accurate, complete, and aligned with company quality policies and procedures. Assist with technical reviews of quotations and proposals, escalating technical queries to the appropriate engineering or operations personnel where required. Customer and Stakeholder Coordination Maintain effective communication with customers throughout the enquiry and quotation process. Coordinate customer requests and ensure enquiries are directed to the appropriate internal departments for timely resolution. Support the sales team in responding to customer technical queries, requests for information, and follow-up actions. Maintain strong working relationships with Sales, Engineering, Operations, Quality, and other internal stakeholders. Coordinate the flow of information between customers and internal teams to ensure requirements and expectations are clearly understood. Support customer visits and meetings as required to discuss sales opportunities, technical requirements, and ongoing enquiries. Sales Pipeline and Enquiry Management Coordinate and monitor sales enquiries from initial receipt through to quotation and purchase order placement. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of enquiries, quotations, opportunities, and sales activities. Monitor and progress outstanding enquiries and follow up with relevant internal stakeholders to ensure timely responses. Track the status of quotations and support the sales team with follow-up activities. Ensure relevant customer and sales information is accurately recorded within company systems. Technical Documentation Coordinate the preparation and submission of technical documentation required to support quotations and sales opportunities. Assist in obtaining relevant drawings, specifications, product information, and technical data from internal teams. Ensure documentation provided to customers is accurate, current, and appropriately controlled. Support the sales team in maintaining consistent and professional customer-facing documentation. Market Research and Business Development Support Conduct research into customers, markets, industries, and potential business opportunities. Assist in identifying potential new customers, markets, and regions for business development activities. Support the sales team with market intelligence and information on potential leads and opportunities. Attend seminars, trade exhibitions, training sessions, and other relevant industry events as required. Assist with the preparation of marketing materials and customer presentations. Reporting and Business Support Prepare and maintain regular reports on sales enquiries, quotations, opportunities, and market activity. Provide accurate sales pipeline information and updates to the Head of Sales and relevant stakeholders. Support the preparation of monthly Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports. Assist with business forecasting and analysis of sales opportunities. Monitor and report on potential leads, market performance, and factors contributing to successful new business opportunities. Maintain accurate sales and customer records in accordance with company procedures. Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of sales coordination and enquiry management processes. Support the implementation of improved systems and processes for managing technical sales enquiries and customer information. Provide feedback to the sales and management teams on recurring customer requirements, technical queries, and opportunities for improvement. Stay informed of relevant products, services, technologies, and industry developments to support effective customer communication. Requirements Experience * Previous experience in sales coordination, technical sales, customer service, engineering, or similar role is an asset. * Experience working within an engineering, manufacturing, or technical environment is desirable, particularly within cable and connector environment. * Experience supporting quotations, proposals, customer enquiries, or sales processes is desirable. Skills Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly understand customer requirements, listen to feedback, and communicate information effectively to colleagues and customers. Strong customer service and relationship management skills. Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple enquiries and priorities. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when preparing quotations, proposals, and technical documentation. Strong research and analytical skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and other relevant business systems. Strong stakeholder management and coordination skills. Ability to develop practical and creative solutions to problems. Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and use own initiative. Ability to work effectively as part of a cross-functional team. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Effective time management and prioritisation skills. Knowledge * Knowledge of technical sales processes, including customer enquiries, quotations, proposals, and order progression. * Knowledge of engineering and manufacturing products, processes, and applications is desirable. * Understanding of technical drawings, specifications, and product documentation. * Understanding of customer requirements and the ability to translate these into appropriate technical and commercial solutions. * Knowledge of quotation and sales pipeline management processes. * Understanding of quality policies and procedures relevant to customer-facing technical documentation. * Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and relevant CRM or ERP systems. * Awareness of relevant industry trends, markets, competitors, and emerging technologies. * Understanding of the principles of customer relationship management and business development. * Knowledge of CAD or technical software tools is desirable. * Engineering or technical qualification preferred but not essential.
