The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and driven Transport Operations Manager to lead our Immingham operation. This is a senior leadership role responsible for ensuring the depot operates safely, compliantly, efficiently, and profitably while delivering exceptional service to our customers. You will work closely with drivers, planners, customers, workshop teams, and senior management to drive operational performance and continuous improvement across the depot.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership
    • Lead the day-to-day operation of the Immingham depot.
    • Manage transport planning, fleet utilisation, and resource allocation.
    • Ensure operational KPIs are achieved, including service delivery, productivity, and vehicle utilisation.
    • Identify and implement efficiencies across transport operations.
  • Driver Management
    • Lead, motivate, and develop a team of drivers and operational staff.
    • Conduct investigations, disciplinary meetings, return-to-work interviews, and performance reviews.
    • Support driver recruitment, retention, and engagement initiatives.
    • Promote a strong safety and compliance culture.
  • Compliance & Fleet Management
    • Ensure full compliance with Operator Licence requirements, Driver Hours Regulations, Working Time Directive, Vehicle maintenance requirements, and Health & Safety legislation.
    • Work closely with compliance and workshop teams to maintain audit-ready standards.
    • Monitor fleet defects, maintenance schedules, and vehicle availability.
  • Customer & Commercial Focus
    • Build strong relationships with customers and key stakeholders.
    • Act as an escalation point for operational issues.
    • Support business development opportunities within the region.
    • Drive service improvements and customer satisfaction.
  • Financial & Performance Management
    • Manage depot costs and operational expenditure.
    • Review KPIs and produce performance reports.
    • Identify opportunities to improve profitability and reduce inefficiencies.
    • Support budget planning and depot performance reviews.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

    • Previous experience managing a busy transport operation.
    • Strong knowledge of container haulage and port operations.
    • Excellent understanding of UK transport legislation and compliance requirements.
    • Experience leading large teams of drivers and operational staff.
    • Strong customer relationship management skills.
    • Commercial awareness with the ability to balance service and profitability.
    • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
    • Strong IT skills and experience using transport management systems.
  • Desirable
    • National or International CPC qualification.
    • Experience within container haulage, ports, shipping, or logistics sectors.
    • Knowledge of ADR operations.
    • Experience managing operational budgets and KPIs.
