At KBC, we are looking for an R&D Senior Consultant to join our Multiflash team within the Technology division. In this highly specialized role, you will contribute to the development of Multiflash—KBC’s industry-leading thermodynamics and physical properties package—supporting both internal experts and external clients through advanced modelling, research, and software innovation. You will collaborate closely with product management, consulting, and software subject matter experts to translate high-level requirements into well-designed, tested, and documented functionality. Key Responsibilities
- Multiflash Development
- Develop new functionality in Multiflash in line with product management requirements.
- Translate high-level requirements into detailed implementation designs and fully documented, production-quality features.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders throughout design, development, testing, and review stages.
- Perform code maintenance and defect fixing in accordance with agile development processes.
- Software Development Roadmap
- Contribute to the software development roadmap.
- Help prioritize development activities in line with business and technology needs.
- Deliver defined objectives within a designated research program.
- Work within established research systems and methodologies.
- Identify gaps or shortcomings in current R&D processes, tools, and methodologies and propose improvements.
- Conduct horizon scanning to identify emerging technologies and assess their potential relevance to the organization.
- Data, Insights & Reporting
- Collect, analyse, and interpret data from primary sources.
- Prepare clear, structured analytical and technical reports to support decision-making.
- Contribute insights on key themes, trends, and research findings.
- Project Delivery
- Deliver small project workstreams within defined scope, schedule, quality, and budget parameters.
- Ensure adherence to established project management methodologies.
- Consulting & Technical Support
- Provide advanced modelling and consulting support to internal and external clients.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with consulting and software subject matter experts.
- Respond to complex technical queries, providing clear guidance and recommendations.
- Professional Development
- Maintain and develop technical expertise through ongoing learning, training, and professional development.
- Stay current with relevant technologies, industry standards, and best practices.

Education & Experience
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree or MS/PhD (or equivalent) in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- Experience
- Proven software development experience in a commercial or academic environment, preferably within the oil and gas industry.
- Strong programming experience, particularly in C++ and/or FORTRAN.
- Experience with mathematical modelling techniques and numerical methods.
- Knowledge of thermodynamics is advantageous but not essential.
- Familiarity with one or more of the following is a plus: Advanced computing (data science, AI/ML, cloud, databases), Numerical methods and optimization.
Highly self-motivated with strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to deliver work to defined timelines and quality standards. Occasional willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
