One of our close clients within the Civils and Highways Sector is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Works Manager to support the delivery of highways and civil engineering projects. The role involves overseeing day-to-day site operations, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards. You will work closely with the Works Manager and site teams to ensure smooth coordination of resources, materials, and personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Supervision: Assist in the management of site operations for highways and civils projects, ensuring compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- Project Coordination: Help coordinate project schedules, labour, and materials, ensuring that tasks are completed on time and within budget.
- Team Leadership: Support the Works Manager in supervising site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring effective communication and teamwork.
- Quality Control: Monitor the quality of work and ensure all project deliverables meet the required standards and specifications.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Assist in conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and toolbox talks. Ensure all safety measures are in place and adhered to on site.
- Reporting: Maintain site records, daily logs, and progress reports. Provide regular updates to senior management on project status.
- Problem-Solving: Address any on-site issues that arise, working with the team to find practical solutions and minimize delays.
Essential Qualifications & Skills:
- Proven experience in highways, civils, or construction, with a focus on site operations.
- Knowledge of HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment, Quality) regulations and procedures.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders.
- Understanding of project scheduling, planning, and resource management.
- CSCS Card (Supervisor Level) or equivalent.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS).
- Degree or HNC in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- First Aid Certification.
- Experience in supervising highways and civils works.
