A warm and welcoming family of five based on a private estate in West Berkshire are seeking an experienced, organised and proactive Live-In or Live-out Housekeeper/Nanny to join their household team. This is a varied, hands-on position combining high-standard housekeeping with childcare and family support, offering an excellent opportunity for a candidate who enjoys working within a private family home and takes pride in maintaining a beautifully presented, well-organised household.
Working closely with the existing Head Housekeeper, the successful candidate will help ensure the smooth running of the property and provide consistent housekeeping cover throughout the week, including weekends. Housekeeping responsibilities will include maintaining exceptional standards of cleanliness and presentation across the home, carrying out general cleaning duties such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping and cleaning kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and living areas. The role will also involve managing the family's laundry and ironing, changing bed linen, keeping wardrobes, cupboards and storage areas organised, and ensuring all rooms are tidy and well presented. The candidate should be confident caring for delicate furnishings, valuable household items and specialist surfaces, undertaking deeper cleaning when required, monitoring household supplies and reporting any maintenance issues or repairs. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with the preparation of the home for guests and entertaining, as well as maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of areas outside the main house when needed. Working collaboratively with the Head Housekeeper will be essential to ensure consistent standards and continuity across the household.
Alongside housekeeping, the position will involve providing attentive, responsible and engaging care for the family's children. Duties will include supporting after-school routines, collecting the children from school and extracurricular activities, preparing meals and snacks, helping with homework, organising age-appropriate activities and assisting with evening routines. The successful candidate should genuinely enjoy working with children and be confident creating a safe, positive and nurturing environment that supports their daily routines and development. During agreed school-holiday periods, flexibility will be required to provide full-day childcare. The role will also include keeping the children's bedrooms, play areas and belongings clean, tidy and organised, communicating effectively with the parents regarding routines and activities, and assisting with the family's pets and other reasonable household tasks as required.
The ideal candidate will have previous housekeeping experience, preferably within a private household, high-end property or busy family environment, together with previous childcare or nannying experience. Experience in a combined Housekeeper/Nanny position would be particularly advantageous. They will be highly organised, reliable, trustworthy and discreet, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively. A flexible, positive and can-do attitude is essential, as is the confidence to work independently using their own initiative while remaining a supportive and collaborative member of the household team. A full, clean driving licence and the ability to confidently drive the children to school and activities are essential for this position.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Housekeeper/Nanny seeking a long-term position within a welcoming private household. The family are looking for someone who will take pride in their work, provide dependable support to both the household and the children, and contribute positively to the day-to-day running of the home.
Working Schedule: 40 hours per week, working Saturday, Sunday and Monday, alongside two five-hour weekday shifts on Tuesday and Wednesday. Flexibility is required to provide full-day childcare during agreed school-holiday periods.
Accommodation: For live-in candidates, a self-contained one or two-bedroom cottage is provided.
