An opportunity has arisen to recruit additional midwives to cover maternity leave in the Maternity Assessment Centre, which includes Antenatal Clinic/Triage/Day Assessment Unit. This unit supports approximately 20,000 episodes of care per year for women with high‑risk pregnancies, enabling outpatient care so women can remain at home with their families. The role involves working with the Obstetric team in consultant‑led antenatal clinics and the newly set up Maternity Assessment Unit. It requires fast‑paced decision making and autonomous practice, with medical cover when needed, and a depth of knowledge on a wide range of antenatal complications and core midwifery assessment skills in triage.
Main Duties
- The post holder provides holistic midwifery care to women, birthing people and babies throughout antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods.
- Duties include care within the newly created Maternity Assessment Centre (ANC, Day assessment unit, Triage), management of individual caseloads and ward areas, and deputising for the Band 7 in all clinical areas.
- The role is multi‑dimensional and requires integration and fulfilment of all identified dimensions.

Job Description – Responsibilities
- Assess, implement and evaluate programmes of antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal and neonatal care for women and babies in line with current evidence, Trust policies, guidelines and the Code.
- Provide appropriate advice, knowledge and counselling to women and their partners regarding all aspects of antenatal, intrapartum (including home births) and postpartum care.
- Act as an advocate for the women and babies receiving maternity care.
- Demonstrate appropriate behaviour/attitude (helpful, kind, caring, compassionate and respectful) towards service users and colleagues, acting as a professional role model in accordance with the NMC Code (2015).
- Provide parenting education, advice on health issues, and support in altering health behaviours to improve health and wellbeing.

Essential Qualifications
- Registered Midwife
- Practising Midwife
- Maintained an up‑to‑date professional portfolio
- Training in obstetric emergencies
- Degree level (or diploma with equivalent experience) in midwifery or related field
