Medical Oncology Consultant – Katalysysts Consulting
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Consultant in Medical Oncology with a specialist interest in Breast and Gynaecological malignancies. This 10PA substantive post offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of world‑class cancer care, research and innovation.
This role is within the Department of Oncology and will support the management and care of patients with breast and gynaecological malignancies. You will work with an existing team of 10 oncology medical staff, including consultants, SAS doctors and specialist trainees.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend weekly multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings for breast and gynaecological malignancies.
- Provide evidence‑based care for patients in a multidisciplinary setting.
- Continuing responsibility for the care of assigned patients, including all administrative duties (with secretarial support).
- Develop sub‑specialty interests aligned with the Division’s needs and the Trust’s strategic direction.
- Teach, examine and provide accreditation duties, contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education.
- Provide cover for colleagues during periods of leave in accordance with Trust policy.
- Participate in clinical audit and continuing medical education.
- Respond to emergencies and unforeseen circumstances as required.
- Provide cover for out‑of‑hours consultant rota as per job plan (not mandatory).
Management and Leadership
- Accountable to the Lead Clinician and Associate Medical Director for service improvement.
- Support clinical lead in policy and strategy development as a senior member of the Division Management Team.
- Help lead change in services to improve patient experience.
- Communicate and involve staff across the Division; support Divisional Director to achieve objectives.
- Work in partnership with colleagues in other divisions.
- Assist in cost‑effective utilisation of resources within budgets.
- Adhere to Clinical Governance and Risk framework, including policy development and financial procedures.
- Directly supervise junior colleagues and participate in teaching programmes.
- Investigate incidents and participate in clinical risk management.
