We are looking for a Community Paediatric Consultant with a special interest in neurodisability to join the Community Paediatric team at Great Western Hospital (GWH). This is a permanent, part‑time (7PA) role.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide multidisciplinary care for children looked after (CLA) and those going through adoption.
- Deliver medical support for children with special education needs.
- Assess and support children with neurodevelopmental needs and neurodisability.
- Support child protection assessment services.
- Collaborate with therapy and education partners from triage to joint planning.
- Undertake robust neurobehavioural assessments using tools such as Qb tests and E‑Conners.
- Run regular multidisciplinary complex movement clinics and manage children with complex neurodisability and end‑of‑life care.
- Work closely with acute epilepsy and respiratory services both in secondary and tertiary centres.
- Support involvement in formal quality improvement projects.
Clinical Duties
- Multidisciplinary team working is a key component of the role, involving regular MDT discussions.
- Provide evidence‑based care for patients in a multidisciplinary setting.
- Continue responsibility for the care of patients assigned to me, including all administrative duties associated with patient care (with secretarial support).
- Develop subspecialty interests that fit within Division needs and the strategic direction of the Trust.
- Carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties, contributing to undergraduate, post‑graduate and continuing medical education activities.
- Provide cover for Consultant colleagues during leave periods in accordance with Trust policy.
- Participate in clinical audit and continuing medical education.
- Conduct suitable duties in emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
- No out‑of‑hours on‑call commitments.
Qualifications
- Fully registered with the GMC.
- MRCPCH (UK) or equivalent.
- UK‑trained applicants must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by interview date.
- Non‑UK‑trained applicants must provide evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
Experience
- Clinical training/experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT.
- Expertise in full range of community paediatrics with emphasis on autism spectrum disorder and ADHD.
- Experience managing children with complex neurodisabilities.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the needs of children who are looked after or being adopted.
- Experience in multidisciplinary team working.
- Ability to apply research outcomes to the clinical environment.
Working Pattern
- Permanent contract, 7PA part‑time, based at Great Western Hospital, Marlborough Road, Swindon, SN3 6BB.
- Pay £109,725 to £145,478 a year, pro rata.
- Employer Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
