Responsibilities
- Ensure the construction works of shelters follow the technical specifications, shelter guidelines, and drawing conditions.
- Monitor construction materials and ensure that their quality meets project requirements.
- Conduct daily field inspections and monitor work in progress to assure compliance with plans, specifications, and good work practice standards.
- Be able to stay at and travel to the project site as necessary for project activities.
- Assist the shelter engineer in preparing beneficiary agreements for the construction of shelters.
- Follow standard procedures for the construction of shelters.
- Supervise and monitor the construction of shelters and provide necessary feedback to beneficiaries regarding construction quality.
- Assist the shelter engineer in ensuring that beneficiaries receive cash for constructing their own shelters based on progress percentage.
- Ensure safety measures are in place at construction sites.
- Assist the shelter engineer in planning activities according to relevant quality standards and collaborate closely with the Emergency Shelter and NFI Cluster.
- Perform any other duties as required or assigned by the shelter engineer and senior project officer.
Qualification
- Person Specification: It is essential that the post holder shows a good understanding and sympathy with Islamic values and principles, as well as a commitment to Islamic Relief Worldwide's vision, mission, and core values.
- Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications: Graduated from a technical institute or holds a BSc in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or other relevant engineering departments. Knowledge of shelter and construction projects. Proficient in MS Office, AutoCAD, and Kobo. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports. Knowledge of safety and security measures.
- Experience: At least 1 year of relevant experience in a construction project.
- Key Personal Qualities: Good communication skills, ability to effectively communicate with local communities, capability to work in a stressed environment and meet deadlines, time management skills, relevant experience in the humanitarian/development sector/INGOs, working knowledge of regional languages of Afghanistan, experience in QC/QA, and selecting appropriate construction materials.
