Our client, a forward-thinking local authority in Nottinghamshire, is seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to join their dynamic Public Protection team.

The Role

As a Private Sector Housing Officer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring residents live in safe, well-maintained homes. You will:

  • Investigate complaints and carry out inspections using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
  • Take appropriate enforcement action to ensure compliance with housing legislation.
  • Administer and monitor housing grants and loans in line with policy and regulations.
  • Inspect and license Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) and liaise with key partners including fire and rescue services.
  • Work with landlords, tenants, and agents to improve housing standards.
  • Support initiatives to bring empty properties back into use and improve the private rented sector across the borough.

About You

You’ll bring strong technical knowledge of private sector housing legislation and a commitment to high standards of public service.

Essential skills and attributes include:

  • Experience in housing enforcement, environmental health, or a similar field.
  • Understanding of the Housing Act 2004 and related legislation.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage complex cases and maintain accurate records.
  • A proactive, problem-solving approach and ability to work independently.
  • Full UK driving licence (a car user allowance is available).
