About the Role

We are recruiting for an experienced Prevention Officer to join a busy local authority team on a temporary basis. This is a fast‑paced role focused on homelessness prevention and housing advice, working with individuals and families at risk of losing their homes. You will play a key part in delivering timely, effective solutions and supporting the council’s statutory duties under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialist housing advice to customers at risk of homelessness, identifying tailored solutions to sustain accommodation or secure alternatives.
• Assess applications for assistance in line with legislation and council policy, making informed decisions on prevention duties.
• Respond to referrals under the Duty to Refer, ensuring timely intervention and effective case management.
• Liaise with housing associations, private landlords, and letting agents to secure accommodation and prevent homelessness.
• Support initiatives such as Deposit Guarantee and Rent in Advance schemes, including affordability assessments.
