NEMS have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Healthcare Assistant to join our team! The role involves performing the first assessment for walk-in patients and providing clinical support to the multidisciplinary team. The Health Assistant will work under clinician supervision, complete an extended competency requirement, and assist in maintaining a safe and efficient service.
Responsibilities
- Work efficiently and professionally with the multidisciplinary team to provide a safe, high-standard service to all service users and their carers.
- Perform and record baseline observations after appropriate training: temperature, pulse, respiration, blood oxygen saturation, blood pressure, weight, urinalysis, blood glucose, peak flow, ECG recording, and venepuncture.
- Act as the first point of contact with patients and/or their carers, maintaining oversight of the waiting room.
- Collaborate with clinicians to prioritise patients in the waiting room, utilising recommended early warning scores such as PEWS or NEWS2.
- Work under minimal supervision while recognising when to elevate concerns to a registered healthcare professional.
- Recognise changes in patient observations or condition and report them promptly to the nurse in charge or appropriate professional.
- Assist with patient treatment, including dressings, providing a chaperone, and supporting during medical emergencies.
- Provide feedback, report, and, where necessary, safeguard patients’ condition and welfare to the appropriate clinician.

Qualifications
- Essential: GCSE grade A–C in English and Maths
- Desirable: NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent
