We are seeking dissertation supervisors with a specialist psychology background in qualitative research methods to join our dynamic online faculty. In this role, you will support undergraduate and postgraduate dissertation students in collaboration with our university partner, the University of Essex. Further information on our programmes can be found at University of Essex Online.
In addition, we are seeking dissertation supervisors and/or tutors (qualitative or quantitative) with a suitable psychology teaching background in the following subject areas:
- Forensic Psychology
- Criminal Psychology
Please state which qualitative methods you specialise in and/or which of the above areas you are qualified to teach in your CV and covering letter.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advising and guiding students throughout the dissertation process, from proposal writing to ethical approval, to data collection and writing up.
- Providing students with examples from your own practice and communicating your expertise within the online teaching space.
- Providing appropriate constructive feedback and advice to ensure student academic and personal development.
- Responding to academic queries to support students to completion of their dissertations.
- Liaising with the Programme Support, Student Support, and the Psychology Departments as required.
- Leading online teaching sessions, including monitoring and contributing to discussion forums and leading webinar teaching sessions for the above modules.
- Moderating and assessing both formative and summative assessments.
Support and training will be provided. The roles offer a degree of flexibility with remote working and hours that can fit around existing commitments.
What You’ll Bring To The Role:
- A strong academic background and practical applied experience in supervising qualitative dissertations and/or teaching one or more of the relevant subject areas outlined above.
- Experience of teaching and assessment on higher education programmes at postgraduate level as well as an enthusiasm for online learning.
- A PhD in a Psychology related area (we cannot accept tutors who have not completed their PhD unless they are applying for the Fundamentals of Effective Learning in Psychology module).
- Experience of teaching and assessing at some/all levels 4-7 within the UK Higher Education sector.
- A willingness to teach at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels as required/appropriate to experience.
- Excellent IT skills, primarily Word, Excel, PowerPoint and online meeting software.
- Good interpersonal skills, comfortable liaising with academic colleagues, tutors and students both face-to-face and in a virtual environment.
- Experience of working with students from a range of cultural backgrounds.
- Excellent written communication skills in English.
- Reliable internet connection.
