Rate: £22.00 per hour
Contract: Contract - 3 to 6 months, with potential to extend
IR35: Outside IR35

About the Role
KAP Technical is working with a leading provider of engineering, technical and resource solutions across the automotive, power and industrial sectors.
We are currently seeking an experienced Vehicle & Equipment Technician with a strong background in generator repair, diesel engines and ground power systems.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, servicing and complex mechanical and electrical repairs across a range of power generation units and heavy equipment. You will play a key role in ensuring equipment remains safe, reliable and operational to the required technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnostics & Repairs: Diagnose faults, service and repair diesel engines, auxiliary power units (APUs), stationary generators and mobile generator systems.
- Mechanical Maintenance: Carry out servicing, component replacement, repairs and full engine overhauls where required.
- Electrical Systems: Diagnose, test and repair AC/DC electrical systems, control panels, wiring, electrical controls and power distribution systems.
- Preventative Maintenance: Complete scheduled servicing, routine inspections, functional checks and load testing on power generation equipment.
- Fault Finding: Identify and resolve complex mechanical, electrical and control system faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment and software.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all work is completed in accordance with relevant health and safety legislation, manufacturer specifications and technical procedures.
- Documentation: Accurately record maintenance activities, faults, repairs and test results, ensuring all work is completed to the required sign-off standards.
About You
- 3+ years' hands-on experience working with generators, heavy diesel engines, auto-electrics, heavy plant or commercial equipment.
- An NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Heavy Plant or Automotive Maintenance.
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience working with diesel engines and generator or power generation systems.
- The ability to interpret technical documentation, wiring diagrams and manufacturer specifications.
- Experience using diagnostic equipment and software.
- A strong focus on safety, quality and attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently while maintaining high technical and professional standards.
- Eligibility to obtain BPSS security clearance.
