As an Interaction and Product Designer at TPXimpact, you will work on projects creating plans, flows, prototypes, and user interfaces that are easy to use and accessible. As part of multidisciplinary teams, you will be able to work independently, and with other specialists to produce high-quality work that meets the needs of users. Alongside this, you will play an active role in contributing to our Interaction & Product Design practice.

  • Framing problems as hypotheses and knowing how to prioritise.
  • Testing assumptions, generating multiple ideas and knowing how to measure if they are successful.
  • Creating prototypes using technical knowledge in the right level of detail (paper, clickable and code) and testing ideas with users to help teams make product choices based on evidence.
  • Designing for accessibility from start to finish, meeting diverse needs to create the best possible experience for everyone.
  • Establishing design patterns and using existing design systems, helping to improve them.
  • Working with developers from discovery to live to turn designs into real products, and using feedback from users to keep improving them.
  • Communicating design decisions clearly, telling the story of our work and impact.
  • Contributing actively to our Interaction & Product Design practice, inspiring engagement and sharing.
  • Continuously maintaining and updating your skills and knowledge to stay current within your relevant field of expertise.

Professional knowledge and experience

Essential Experience

  • Contributing to product design strategy, problem framing and propositions as well as managing assumptions and using hypothesis-driven approaches.
  • Creating and designing prototypes using a mix of methods (such as paper, clickable and code) supporting learning and insight throughout different stages of design.
  • Using graphic/visual design craft composition, typography and layout to create high quality interfaces; in form and function.
  • Designing inclusively, meeting accessibility standards and the needs of diverse user groups.
  • Building proficiency in different tools to communicate intent and create visually engaging artefacts.
  • Working with other design disciplines to identify user needs and identify opportunities to inform design choices.
  • Working with developers; bridging the gap using knowledge of how the internet works (such as, HTML, CSS and JS) translating design into working software.
  • Using and contributing to design systems.
  • Facilitating activities to progress the work and present the story of change and impact.
  • Working in ambiguous situations to build shared understanding, with clarity and direction.

Desirable Experience

  • Identifying skill gaps in junior designers or members of a client team, and working with them to develop their skills working with teams with low design maturity.

Technical skills

  • Align design work with long-term goals, vision, and product strategy.
  • Shape problem framing and develop product propositions that support strategic service direction.
  • Independently map user interactions and identify key tasks for goal achievement.
  • Apply information architecture, micro-interactions, design systems and graphic/visual design principles to create prototypes of the appropriate fidelity using various methods (e.g. paper, clickable, and code).
  • Understand and communicate how code influences design and deployment decisions.
  • Demonstrate the value of prototyping in code, using tools like GOV.UK and NHS prototype kits.
  • Apply visual and graphic design principles to create accessible and impactful interfaces following WCAG and WAI-ARIA standards.
  • Monitor and understand the impact of emerging technologies, such as large language models and generative AI, on interaction design practice.
  • Contribute to and take ownership of training and skills.
