The Elevator Superintendent is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, processing grain, managing grain quality, leading and supervising employees, maintaining elevator equipment and the premises, and ensuring compliance with safety and industry regulations. Additional responsibilities include promoting company and branch location employee cohesiveness through effective communication, teamwork, shared services, and by following safety policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greets customers in a positive and courteous manner and provides excellent customer service.
  • Serves customers by responding to inquiries, questions, and/or complaints in a prompt, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Assists in solving problems for customers promptly.
  • Ensures good quality grain condition by conducting monthly facility inspections, monitoring bin temperatures, necessary housekeeping, and keeping the elevator clean and performing preventive maintenance.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the interior and exterior of the facility is neat, clean, and in good condition.
  • Unloads and/or loads trucks.
  • Inspects grain for insects, moisture, and foreign material while unloading grain trucks.
  • Reads thermometers to ascertain grain temperatures at various levels in storage tanks in a timely manner.
  • Starts conveyors, selects flow pipes, sets trippers, and selects storage tanks to convey grain into storage or to loading department.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repair on all elevator equipment.
  • Fills anhydrous ammonia tanks as needed.
  • Maintains facility cleanliness to ensure safety and required standards are met.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule during harvest including days of the week, shifts, and hours per week (including overtime as needed).
  • Completes all paperwork accurately, timely, and in accordance with requirements.
  • Effectively communicates by verbal and written means with customers, employees, and management.
  • Maintains and promotes safety awareness and follows safety policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
  • Must comply with all state and federal laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Present a clean and professional appearance.
  • Responsible for prompt and regular attendance.
  • Employee is required to perform all other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal laws. Responsibilities include working with the location manager to achieve maximum utilization of grain employees and equipment.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Willing to seek out and attend additional continuing education, seminars, classes, or other job-related education requirements or opportunities.
  • Commercial Pesticide Certification 7B preferred.
  • Forklift Certification preferred.
  • NH3 Handling Certification preferred.
