Overview Kier, a joint venture with BAM Nuttall, is recruiting a Senior Design Manager for a major redevelopment project at the Royal Navy site in Plymouth – Devonport Royal Dockyard. The role requires 42.5 hours per week with some flexibility. BPSS security clearance is required; sponsorship not available.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage design and engineering teams across multiple disciplines, including Temporary Works, Digital Engineering, Concrete & Materials Management, and Survey & Monitoring.
  • Develop and oversee Temporary Works and Contractor Design Portion strategies, schedules and deliverables to align with project requirements.
  • Coordinate design activities with project management and operational delivery teams to ensure timely delivery and seamless integration.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory and quality requirements; review and approve design outputs and technical documentation.
  • Manage resources, budgets and risks; mentor and develop team members to foster continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Professional manager with at least 10 years post‑qualification experience (or 15 years relevant experience) and academic qualifications such as HNC, HND, BSc, MSc, BEng or MEng.
  • Significant experience in design and engineering leadership, strong project management and team leadership skills.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Thorough understanding of design processes, procedures and standards; confident at client‑focused presentations and meetings.
  • CSCS White PQP/AQP card and eligibility for UK security clearance (passport from a NATO or MISWG member country and residency in the UK for the last 5 years).
