Due to the rapid and exciting growth of our internal environmental consultancy services, we’re looking for a Senior Ecologist to join our team. In this role, you’ll play a pivotal part in delivering a diverse range of projects across the UK, spanning the road, rail, water, and property sectors. A full driving licence is essential for this role.
Location and Hours
- Location: Penrith, Cumbria – travel to sites and offices required, with remote working available.
- Hours: 37.5 hours per week – Some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.
Compensation
- Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 per year + £5.9k annual car allowance + private healthcare + benefits.

Responsibilities
- Provide expert technical advice; lead the design and delivery of ecological surveys, mitigation strategies, and licences.
- Champion nature‑based solutions and drive innovation across the business, ensuring sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.
- Support the delivery of ecological consultancy services across sectors including road, rail, water, and property.
- Lead ecology services and implement appropriate mitigation and enhancements.
- Author and review technical ecological documents.
- Oversee the management of construction risks associated with ecology.
- Lead and contribute to client, stakeholder, and technical meetings, actively promoting environmental principles, best practice, and innovation.
Qualifications
- A degree in Ecology or equivalent experience.
- Full membership of CIEEM (or working towards), or equivalent.
- A UK protected species licence.
- Strong working knowledge and experience of UK Habitat survey, habitat condition assessments, Defra Biodiversity Metric, and Biodiversity Net Gain plans.
