We are looking for an Inspector (Night Scout) to become part of our Birmingham Interim Services Contract team in Aston, Birmingham. In this position, you will play an essential part in ensuring that Birmingham's streets remain safe and well-lit at night. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working independently whilst being part of a supportive team environment.

Location: 142 Thimble Mill Lane, Aston, Birmingham, B7 5HR

Hours: 40 hours per week – evenings and nights

Salary: £27,976 per year + excellent benefits

What will you be responsible for?

  • Conducting night-time driven surveys of the network to identify faults in street lighting and illuminated traffic signs
  • Accurately recording and raising jobs for electrical asset defects using handheld technology
  • Supporting planning and operations teams with follow‑up inspections to ensure assets are functioning properly
  • Processing and raising jobs from public enquiries efficiently
  • Reporting urgent defects promptly to the Operational Control Room to ensure public safety

What are we looking for?

  • Holds a full UK driving licence and is comfortable driving at night
  • Has knowledge of highways electrical assets and understands how they operate
  • Holds HEA 210 and HEA 210.1 (G39) qualifications desirable but training will be provided
  • Is confident using technology, including interpreting maps and spatial data
  • Works well both independently and as part of a team, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to excellent customer care
