Assistant Engineer – Structures

Kier Design, a top‑25 engineering consultancy, is seeking an Assistant Engineer to join its Design team.

This role is based in London, Birmingham or Manchester, with remote working available and occasional office travel.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Lead Engineer in delivering and managing highways structures schemes from initial investigation through to construction.
  • Prepare technical designs, documents, and drawings using the latest software, ensuring compliance with DMRB and MCHW standards.
  • Undertake site visits, structure inspections and gather background data to inform design decisions.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve project targets while maintaining personal utilisation goals.
  • Complete CDM documentation and promote health, safety and environmental excellence across all project aspects.
  • Mentor junior team members and work towards chartered status.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering and working towards Incorporated or Chartered status.
  • Experience in the design of structures for maintenance or new‑build schemes and knowledge of DMRB and MCHW standards.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety Management and CDM Regulations, with demonstrable experience in an engineering consultancy.
  • Commitment to professional development and ability to build effective relationships with clients and stakeholders.
