Kangaroos is an established Mid-Sussex charity dedicated to supporting families by providing high-quality clubs and activities for individuals with learning disabilities, including those with challenging behaviour and complex medical needs.
Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated SEND Session Activity Leader to deliver a Kangaroos session. The successful candidate will ensure the club delivers optimal outcomes for our members and their families, maintaining strict compliance with relevant legislation (including Ofsted, Health & Safety, and GDPR) alongside internal policies.
Our members require specialist care to meet diverse support needs, including communication, personal care, behaviour support, and the administration of emergency medication. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring this care is delivered safely, competently, and sensitively, ensuring that members’ views and voices actively inform the service.
Key Responsibilities
- Session Delivery: Maintain a warm, caring, and stimulating environment, facilitating safe and creative activities tailored to the needs, interests, and strengths of our members.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain effective working relationships with members, parent-carers, venue management, and external activity providers, responding to queries and concerns sensitively and professionally.
- Compliance & Administration: Ensure all regulatory documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and legally compliant. This includes member care plans, activity risk assessments, registers, safeguarding logs, and medication administration records.
- Leadership & Culture: Act as a positive role model, embedding Kangaroos’ core values, demonstrating professional conduct, and actively challenging discrimination to promote equal opportunities.
Person Specification
- Proven experience working with people with learning disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain environments that foster engagement, learning, and social interaction.
- Robust knowledge and practical application of alternative communication tools within a SEND environment.
