Reporting into: Senior Supplier Technical Manager
Salary: £35-40k
Hours: Mon-Fri 8am-4pm
Main purpose of the role: To support the technical approval, monitoring, and ongoing compliance of raw materials, primarily ingredients and packaging, with occasional involvement in fresh produce. The role will develop technical competence, supplier-facing experience and commercial understanding, with progression toward a future management role.
Job Responsibilities:
- Support the supplier approval and onboarding process for new raw materials and suppliers
- Maintain and review due diligence documentation in line with customer and industry requirements (e.g. specifications, certificates, quality attribute sheets)
- Assist with creating, updating and maintaining raw material specifications
- Support the maintenance of the approved supplier list
- Assist with supplier performance monitoring and basic data analysis
- Support raw material surveillance activities (e.g. testing schedules, traceability exercises)
- Assist in maintaining raw material risk assessments and vulnerability assessments
- Support horizon scanning activities by gathering information on emerging supplier or raw material risks
- Record supplier non-conformances and support investigations
- Track corrective actions and follow up with suppliers
- Review finished product artwork for accuracy, ensuring packaging due diligence and specification documents are maintained
- Update and maintain customer and supplier monitoring platforms (e.g. Authenticate, Food Expert, Sedex etc.)
- Support internal audits and preparation for external audits and customer visits
- Assist with supplier visits and audits alongside senior team members
- Help generate reports and KPIs to support technical decision making
Job requirements:
Skills & Experience required to do this role:
- Experience in a food manufacturing or supply chain environment (placement or graduate experience acceptable)
- Strong attention to detail and organised approach to work
- Good communication skills with confidence to engage suppliers and internal teams
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, with the ability to learn and navigate new systems
- Willingness to learn, develop and take on increasing responsibility
- Auditing experience or interest in developing audit skills
Qualifications:
- Food Science degree (or equivalent industry experience)
- HACCP Level 3
- Food Safety Level 3
