KaneHR is a rapidly growing HR consultancy, providing outsourced HR professional and trusted support to a range of fantastic clients across various industry sectors. We are now seeking a Senior HR Consultant / HR Consultant to join our team, where there is opportunity for continual learning and development. This role is for an HR professional who will be confident, highly knowledgeable in their field, and able to advise clients on a one-to-one basis, both verbally and in person.

The successful candidate will be fully CIPD qualified with an HR generalist background, with demonstrable experience of advising on and managing varied and complex ER cases across multiple stakeholder groups, including disciplinary/grievance matters and re-organisations on a regular basis. The varied nature of consulting requires an individual who has a good understanding of servicing multiple stakeholders to a high level, coupled with a strong ability to adapt their approach and application of HR advice across a variety of business industries.

As a business focused on growth, we are looking for an individual who can demonstrate a commercialised approach whilst able to work with confidence and efficiency with a meticulous attention to detail. You will play a key role in continuing to build and enhance our service offerings for our clients, as well as building your own knowledge and skills along the way.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Client Management: Effectively manage a portfolio of clients, with support from the junior team as required. This will include building and maintaining positive relationships with existing and potential clients, taking proactive steps to maintain and increase client income, managing client service expectations according to budget, reviewing monthly time reports and being the senior point of contact for the client. Establish yourself with clients’ internal senior leadership teams/business leaders to become their ‘go to’ professional HR advisor, contributing to the development and roll out of their HR strategy, leading projects, and participating in leadership meetings, as required.
  • In conjunction with the junior team, ensure that a partial/fully outsourced HR service is delivered to clients in an efficient and timely manner. This will involve creating and maintaining an efficient HR support structure for clients including recruitment, onboarding, maintaining HR Information Systems, employee files, headcount and salary data, benchmarking, holiday/sickness/maternity reporting, payroll collation, training and appraisal structures if required. Attend client sites as required.
  • Seek advice from external business partners, including solicitors, as required, and use this to advise clients accordingly. Assist clients in recruitment, selection and onboarding processes as required, either by providing interview guidelines and coaching or by actively participating in the process on behalf of the client.
  • Provide support to the Managing Partner and other senior members of the team, presenting to new clients and seeking to secure new business. This will include understanding the client needs, identifying industry trends and market data and the preparation of proposal documents.
Employee Relations:
  • Provide expert advice on all HR related issues for client group, including complex disciplinary and grievance matters, business reorganisations, TUPEs, redundancies (including collective consultations), terminations of employment, performance meetings, maternity/paternity queries and sickness absence. This will involve attending internal meetings at client premises, either as an advisor or conducting meetings on a client’s behalf.
  • Support clients with settlement negotiations, ACAS engagement and attend preparation of Employment Tribunal papers, if required. Take accountability for drafting and continually reviewing written documentation for clients (to ensure legal compliance), making recommendations for improvements.
  • This will include contracts of employment, policy and procedures, absence related documents, probationary period review letters, outcome of disciplinary and grievance letters, restructure and redundancy documentation etc.
Projects and Training:
  • Independently carry out ad hoc projects for clients including reviewing onboarding processes, job description and benchmarking exercises, wellbeing and engagement initiatives, appraisal and performance management system development, staff communications, compliance research, training programmes and other ad hoc projects as required.
  • Support for projects will be provided from the wider team, where necessary. Confidently lead projects passed to us by third parties, for example, complex disciplinary and grievances, business reorganisations, TUPEs and redundancies (including collective consultations).
  • Deliver onsite training for clients on a range of key topics, including but not limited to, the onboarding process, HR systems, engagement, disciplinary process, performance management and managing absence.
Documentation Management and HR Processes:
  • Provide senior level advice to business leaders and senior managers on a variety of HR issues, assessing requirements and identifying solutions (such as contracts of employment, onboarding processes, system requirements, sickness absence, disciplinary, grievance, appeals, termination, pay and benefits, performance management), as well as provide an administration service as required.
  • Proactively use Breathe (or client’s own HR system, if appropriate) to report relevant information and trends to clients on a regular basis and recommend relevant interventions/support from Kane to remedy any concerning findings.
  • With the assistance of junior members of the team, record and manage client employee data to ensure managers are aware of probationary period expiry dates, performance management review dates, maternity leave dates, levels of employee sickness absence, visa expiry dates, DBS and driving licence checks, as well as additional asylum and immigration checks as required.
  • Maintain client employee files and data; reporting on appropriate management information to clients as requested including starters and leaver information, turnover and retention levels etc. Update and maintain payroll records for clients and liaise with client Finance teams regularly to support with payroll administration.
  • Prepare, maintain and update employment contracts, offer letters, policies, procedures and handbooks ensuring they are legally compliant. Provide expertise across a number of HR disciplines including employee engagement, HR strategy, learning and development, talent and performance management, organisational design and change management.
General:
  • Keep up to date with employment law and proactively advise clients of actions required as a result of the changes. Attend networking events to raise the profile of the business and attract new clients.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Confident with an ability to establish self quickly and gain credibility with clients. Able to provide adaptable and pragmatic HR advice to a variety of clients; taking into account their particular business and culture, their goals and objectives and HR legislation.
  • Have the confidence and presence to influence and advise all levels of management effectively and professionally. This will include Company directors and owners. Strong inter-personal skills.
  • Highly knowledgeable and competent in preparing and writing HR documentation, with the ability to draft bespoke documentation to an excellent standard. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multi-task, such that multiple clients’ needs are met within required timescales.
  • High level of commercial awareness. Experience of managing subordinates and able to engage and motivate the team in line with our values. Excellent presentational skills. Commercially astute. Excellent attention to detail. Good problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to play a leadership role within the Kane team and motivate the more junior team to deliver in line with expectations.
KNOWLEDGE:
  • Microsoft IT packages. Sound knowledge of HR best practice and UK employment law.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Extensive previous HR generalist experience, ideally within a client focused senior business partnering role. Experience of advising on and managing varied and complex disciplinary/grievance matters and reorganisations.
  • Experience of working on company-wide people initiatives, e.g., Employee Engagement, Talent Development. Experience in leading on TUPE transfer consultations (desirable).
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Fully CIPD qualified or equivalent.
